Corio ensures its economic sustainability by investing in the ecological and social development of its centres. We want to create flexible, future-proof and viable centres. We integrate sustainability in the design and construction of all centres. We implement this by obtaining BREEAM certificates from an independent agency and by measuring the percentage of suppliers that sign our code of conduct.

Third-party certification distinguishes products and services from our competitors and gives us confidence about our performance. BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) addresses wide-ranging environmental and sustainability issues and enables developers and designers to prove the environmental credentials of their buildings to a wide range of stakeholders. BREEAM is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the preferred used to describe a building’s environmental performance. It is fully integrated in the design and development of our new buildings, but also part of the design in (large) redevelopments. Based on research we participate in, in the medium to long term we intend to link the value of our centres to the BREEAM scores. This way our strategic approach to building certification directly helps the bottom line.

We have set targets on minimizing our environmental impact of our developments (100% green): the compliance to BREEAM Good standard and the realisation of Environmental Impact Assessments.
