The Spanish retail market has seen strong growth over the past ten years: on the one hand the number of square meters of shopping centres has increased strongly and on the other hand shopping centre rents and values have risen substantially, resulting in good annual total returns. At the start of this ten year period, particularly the larger centres in Madrid and Barcelona were very popular with tenants and investors. Over the years demand shifted to other cities and medium-sized centres. Corio owns ten shopping centres with approximately 130,800m² lettable area and a value of € 574 million. Three are located in the urban areas of Madrid, one in Barcelona and six in other smaller cities where they are the dominant shopping centres with good track records.
