Italians like to shop in shopping centres. Despite lower growth in consumer spending, shopping centres are doing relatively well. Italy, especially central and southern Italy, is under-shopped compared to other European countries. Since the acquisition of the Trema portfolio in 2001 Corio has owned three dominant shopping centres in Italy, all three of which feature amongst the top ten centres with the highest rents per square meter. Since then, the shopping centres Il Maestrale in Senigallia and Globo in Busnago (near Milan) have been acquired. The Italian portfolio consists of 7 shopping centres with a total lettable area of 182,800m² and a value of circa € 1.0 billion.
