PARTNERSHIP CORIO AND SAVE THE CHILDREN

The international youth Leadership Academy in Turkey was founded by Save the Children, in collaboration with Youth for Habitat, Wald and UCLG and is funded by Corio.

The academy is an international training centre for young leaders, located next to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia in Istanbul.

THE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
The International Youth Leadership Academy officially opened its doors on 20 September 2011. The opening attracted great media attention and was amongst others attended by Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, Governor of Istanbul, Kadir Topbaş, mayor of Istanbul Greater Municipality, Gerard Groener, CEO of Corio N.V., Basri Hakan Hakyemez, undersecretary of Youth and Sport and Onno Kervers, the Dutch Consul General in Istanbul.

TRAINERS AND TRAINEES
Since its opening, the IYLA has educated 2,515 children in the areas of international rights, entrepreneurship, computer training and language skills, among others. In addition, 166 trainers from Southeast Europe, the Balkans,
the Caucasus, and the Middle East were trained in the summer school. Upon returning to their home countries, these trainers educated a further 2,617 underprivileged children. There is now more demand than the academy can
accommodate.

RATIONALE
By funding the Academy Corio wants to invest in the future of young, underprivileged children in one of its home countries. The life skills education they receive here will help the children to fulfil their potential.
